"I was at the end of my rope trying to find a place (after looking for 3 months) having combed Craigslist, Westside Rentals, Pacific Listings and a bajillion more. "We've all heard it before: Los Angeles is an unforgiving city. And it can be pretty harsh. Whether you're vying for the last drop of raw honey from the self-pour containers at Whole Foods; desperately trying to get in to the right lane so you don't miss your exit and make yourself even later to wherever you're trying to get; or auditioning your ass off to be discovered...it's all the same. There are many of "us" and few of "it" and having someone on your side makes all the difference in the world.

Enter The Rental Girl (aka, Missy and Zaya). I have been looking for an apartment for some time now and time and again I have heard the same stories: "That unit's been rented."; "We have 27 applications for that unit."; "Landlords in LA don't like co-signers." I was just about ready to give up and trudge my sorry self back to the dark, slushy, sleety, frozen winters of Boston when I found these beauties.

Not only do they have exceptionally lovely units that aren't in apartment-farms managed by corporations with buildings across the globe, they also have the care and warmth that can give a girl hope when she's looked at 30 units in two months and is beyond burnt out. The images on their website are representative of the actual unit. No online dating-eque surprises ("Funny, your profile said you were 6'2" and gainfully employed. I'd say you were more like, 5'6" and...") when you arrive at the unit. No hidden costs. No rented units sitting for days on the website looking very available. And once you submit an application to one of the Rental Girl team members, your application stays good for any and all units you're interested in, regardless of which Rental Girl you originally submitted your application to. You pay the screening fee once.

And if that's not enough, these two women have been kind, thoughtful, responsive, supportive, and even willing to deal with a few tears (hey, who wouldn't cry after looking at 30 apartments that looked lovely online and turned out to be filthy rat holes?) along the journey.

I've noticed that there have been other comments about this team and about their expensive units. I would like to point out several things: 1) Los Angeles is expensive. According to NPR if you compare the median home price with the median income it is *the* most expensive city in the country. Worse than Manhattan. Yes. Worse. Than. Manhattan. 2) You do not have to pay The Rental Girl anything out of your own pocket for their help. So it makes sense that perhaps the landlords they work with raise their rents a touch. Fine with me.

I wish the Rental Girls were also Car-Buying Girls; Travel-Agent Girls; Matchmaker Girls...Life GIrls?"

"I love everything about this service. First, it's updated real time. One thing I hate about a lot of real estate websites is that their listings are often outdated and not current. Searching for an apartment in Los Angeles is a serious competitive game. If you don't act fast, you miss out.

I had the pleasure of working with Missy and she found me an adorable studio in Hollywood. Originally, I was interested in a different place, but lost out on it. Missy was so supportive and encouraged me to sign up on her VIP list to get first dibs and was always in touch when she thought there was a listing I may like.
